9 Preguntas - Tales from the end of the world

Un par de antologías en las que participo, increíblemente bien acompañada, y que ya se han puesto a la venta.
Tales from the end of the world publicado por Norma.

Doctor Strange Season One on sale today

At last! it took us a lot of months to prepare this, that it feels difficult to believe it is out today. I remember making several jokes during the process about Stephen Strange being already part of my family. This is the second time I deal with him, the first one was “Strange the doctor is out” with Mark Waid from which you can find some samples searching around here. Honestly, Strange was always a fave but now he feels like a cousin or an uncle, and thanks to this book, so does Wong. I´ve been always in love with the classic stuff, so much it´s always thrilling but difficult to confront new stories about him, even more if they are related to his origin. We basically prepared an untold adventure trying not to touch anything that was already in his story. We did our best for being respectful and I believe the story ended up being touching and fun. The book is all about the characters and our love for them, hope you can enjoy it as much as we did. I want to say thanks to all my team, Greg Pak, Ellie Pyle, Jordie Bellaire, Clayton Cowles and Álvaro López for doing such a great job and for being so wonderful. Also Tom Brevoort, for his advices during the process, and because he was the one who put me in the first Strange book I did, which was also the first long gig I had at Marvel. My partner Greg Pak will be signing today at Midtown comics, here are the details. here is a funny video we did together that was great fun (sorry about my weird accent, it´s so embarrassing) And a preview Greg also prepared for the book. There are several pages on sale at Cadence Comic Art if you want, here. If after reading the book, any of you feel just a bit more intereseted in the magic side of the Marvel universe, I´d consider my task as a success. The only thing I´d ask you would be, please, just go and read Ditko's stuff, you can find it in Essential Doctor Strange volume 1. I promise you´ll be blown away. "Gokudo Cats" at Floating World Comics in Portland

line art and color by me, flats by Roque Romero So, this is the piece I prepared for Sloane Leong´s yakuza exhibition at Floating World Comics in Portland, called Battle without honor and humanity, honoring Fukasaku´s movie. Actually, the whole exhibition is an homage to the yakuza-eiga genre, that I couldn´t love more. WHO: Artwork and zines by Ralph Niese, Maritsa Patrinos, Joanna Kroatka, Alexis Ziritt, Andrew Maclean, Logan Faerber, Andrew Maclean, Robert Wilson IV, Sophia Foster-Dimino, Rebecca Mock, Roxie Vizcarra, D-Pi, Ian MacEwan, Zack Soto, Morgan Jeske, Hunter Heckroth, Emma Rios, Vlad Jean, Aluisio Santos, Frank Teran, Jeremy Sorese, Ryan Andrews, Hwei Lim, Amei Zhao, Kris Mukai, David Brothers, Stanley Lieber and M. Dominic WHAT: Yakuza film inspired art exhibit WHEN: Saturday, September 15th, 6-8pm; artwork on display until Sept. 30 WHERE: Floating World Comics, 400 NW Couch St. About the picture, at the beginning I was looking for some kind of disturbing feeling, but it ended up quite Miyazakish thanks to the coloring and the thin inking. Actually, I even changed the ojisan´s face into a smile in the middle of the process. In general, I think I´m kinda happy with that. As always, there is a story behind. I think I can´t do illustration work whithout thinking about something happening. Both are tattoo makers, in a Kenobi/Luke kind of domestic relationship, trying to survive the gokudo the best they can. Who knows if there is more to come. Hope you like it. Prophet #26

Mr. Brandon Graham, city King and retro sci-fi new mastermind, invited me to participate in his amazing Prophet series a while ago so, I wrote, and drew, and colored this short backup for Prophet #26 that was released yesterday. Prophet #26 backup - Coil 1 Prophet #26 backup - Coil 2-3 Prophet #26 backup - Coil 4-5 I tried to do many things here and had a lot of fun, maybe too much. It´s the first thing I write and draw for the american audience, hope there are more to come. Thanks a lot to Roque Romero for doing the flats, he was a life saver. Also thanks a lot to David Brothers for writing this beautiful analysis at Comic Alliance. He totally read my mind. This may be one of the best things that can happen to you when you are a comic artist. Brandon draws his own story in this issue, which is so poetic and overwhelming. I´m sure it´s going to blow you away with things like this, he is so good and the book is fucking beautiful. What Brandon, Simon Roy, Giannis Milonogiannis and Farel Dalrymple are doing in the series is fantastic. You have to check it.

SI C&D3 the end (of course SPOILER ALERT!)

Working in this title was really great.
As the last issue was released last week(preview) I just wanted to drop a line to say that we all are blown away by the incredible response this book had.
Thanks for all those letters, for all the kind words and, of course! for The signing petition for the ongoing the lovely guys from the Ladies Making comics tumblr started.

The fact that after all this years there is still a lot of love for these characters makes me really happy. Nick, Javi, Steve, Alejandro and me are very proud of this book, and we would love to continue it some day.
Crossing fingers.

Thanks so much for making us feel we did Ty and Tandy some justice.

The Fly homage I tried in the spider mutation and Mr Negative´s behaviour were especially fun to draw in this issue.

SI C&D 1

Our Spider Island Cloak and Dagger will be out this week so, here is some stuff related to it:

SI C&D1 page 8
This page was pretty special to me, as it was the first one where they really interact. The reason to cut their heads in the panels was increasing the drama.

We are loving this book. Nick´s vision of the characters feels perfect to me and, about what I´m doing, well, I think it´s the best work I´ve done till now.
Javi Rodríguez is doing the colouring and I´m ecstatic. We shared some mails about how to deal with the line and the atmosphere that included some movie trailers and eventually, we ended up with this result. We are calling it "Asian-Fincher color" as a joke, honoring David Fincher´s movies and some heroic bloodshed stuff from Hong Kong cinema of the 90s. In general we wanted to think more about homogenic lights and feelings in order to fit the narrative.
Hope everybody can enjoy the book as much as we do.

Here is the preview of the first issue, click.

I´ve been a fan of these characters since my teens. I´m specially in love with Mantlo´s work, with Ed Hanninghan and Rick Leonardi. We all are, and of course, the book is dedicated to him. That was my main reference and I´m trying to evocate that atmosphere the best I can.
Here is a link to a FB iniciative of his daughter who is trying to do a compilation of his work. The Bill Mantlo project.

SI C&D3 cover
As a bonus track, here is my first cover for Marvel, for SI C&D3. I´m loving Mr Negative, he is absolutely charming to ink.

Thank you Nick (Spencer), Javi (Rodríguez), Steve (Wacker) and Alejandro (Arbona) for being so passionate about this project, I´m really enjoying this ride.
